Bachmann Software Brings Windows® Networking to Palm Powered™Handhelds
Expanded FilePoint version 3.0 features "network neighborhood" access to network servers, folders, and files from wireless handheld computers
SPARTA, NJ - March 25, 2004...Bachmann Software today introduced version 3.0 of its popular FilePoint software. With version 3.0, Bachmann's file management application for handhelds now gives Palm Powered™ handheld owners the ability to access, browse and copy files to and from shared network drives, just as they do today from their laptops and desktop computers. FilePoint 3.0's powerful explorer-like user interface lets you browse computers, network shares and network file folders just as you would from your desktop computer or laptop. A copy function allows users to copy files between shared network folders and the handhelds main memory or available expansion cards. With FilePoint, a Microsoft Word user can use their palmOne™ Tungsten™ C handheld to reach out to the network, copy important business documents to a memory expansion card, make changes to their documents on the handheld using Documents To Go®, and use FilePoint's "File Save As" feature to save their changes back out to the network. Similarly students and teachers in wirelessly-enabled schools can use FilePoint 3.0 to quickly and easily exchange papers, lesson plans and homework assignments as they roam through the building, without going through the HotSync® process. Even music lovers can use FilePoint 3.0 to access their personal MP3 collections and enjoy their favorite tunes on the road. "We are pleased that Bachmann Software is adding Window's networking support to their new version of FilePoint," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing for PalmSource. "With the ability to access Windows networks, FilePoint enhances the utility of the more than 20,000 software applications available for Palm Powered mobile devices by allowing end users to extend their connectivity and access and their ability to use and transfer remote files stored on a network." "FilePoint 3.0 is a major step forward towards integrating handhelds into the office and home-based networks we use every day", said Glenn Bachmann, president and founder of Bachmann Software. "With our FilePoint and PrintBoy networking features, we are providing cost effective ways to instantly upgrade Palm Powered handhelds to levels of functionality normally associated with expensive laptop computers." "With FilePoint 3.0 and the built-in Wi-Fi capabilities of the palmOne Tungsten C handheld, corporate and personal users can wirelessly access their corporate files from a Wi-Fi1 hotspot, "said Chris Erickson-King, wireless business development manager at palmOne, Inc. "We are excited that Bachmann has made this functionality available for our palmOne products." "FilePoint 3.0's ability to retrieve documents from the network and then send them back to the network directly from within Documents To Go®, provides and important extension to our office suite," said Rob Hoxie, director of business development at DataViz®, Inc.. "Our customers who store their documents on a network will be excited about this new version from Bachmann Software." FilePoint 3.0 is priced at $29.99 USD, and is available for purchase from Bachmann Software's website at http://www.bachmannsoftware.com. 1 Wireless access may require a subscription, sold separately.
