Bachmann Software Expands File Management Capabilities to All Palm OS Devices with Memory Expansion Cards
FilePoint™ and beta version of FilePoint Desktop both on display at PalmSource Conference and Expo
SPARTA, N.J.
-
February 5, 2002
Today at PalmSource, the annual gathering of the Palm Economy,
Bachmann Software announces the release of FilePoint™ 2.1, extending the
application's ability to manage Palm OS files on the external memory cards of
HandEra 330 devices, along with the Handspring compatible
MemPlug expansion Springboard module. The company is also
showcasing its soon-to-be-released FilePoint Desktop application, providing
users with the ability to manage their Palm OS files from their desktop PCs.
By adding support for the HandEra 330 and the MemPlug Springboard module,
along with previously announced support for Palm and Sony brand devices,
Bachmann Software now provides file management support on all the leading
Palm OS devices. With FilePoint's ability to organize data extended to
all Palm Powered handhelds, Bachmann Software is further strengthening the
Palm OS as the platform-of-choice for companies equipping their mobile workforces
with handheld computers and a variety of productivity-enhancing applications.
As mobile professionals expand their handhelds beyond basic "organizer" functions
by adding spreadsheets, word processing documents, databases, ebooks and
other vital business data, the ability
to better organize and locate the data is more important than ever before.
FilePoint Desktop, also showcased today at PalmSource in beta format,
will enhance the ability to manage files on Palm Powered handhelds by
giving users the ability to organize the content stored on their handhelds
while working on their desktop PCs. Changes to the file structure, such as
creating, renaming or deleting folders, or moving files between folders or
from RAM to an expansion card, can be managed on the desktop and processed
on the Palm OS handheld during synchronization. FilePoint Desktop is currently
scheduled for release in March 2002.
Since its initial release in June 2001, FilePoint has been lauded for its
user-friendly features and familiar interface. In its 5-star review of
FilePoint published in the November 27, 2001 issue, PC Magazine described
FilePoint as a "dual-purpose Windows Explorer-like utility that provides
flexible file folder management and an optional alternative application
launcher for the Palm OS main menu." The reviewer praised FilePoint's ability
to "help you take advantage of PDA storage expansion, keep applications accessible,
and set up a customized file folder organization scheme."
FilePoint 2.1 retails for US$29.95 and is available on Bachmann Software's
Web site, www.bachmannsoftware.com, or any of the Web sites that sell
Palm OS applications, such as PalmGear and Handango. It is also available
in retail stores nationwide as part of the Mobile Tools utility suite
offered by Handmark, combining FilePoint with Bachmann Software's flagship product,
PrintBoy, along with other essential utilities designed to improve the handheld
computing experience of Palm Powered device users.
Current users are entitled to a free upgrade to the new version of FilePoint.
